Over 50 years working in partnership with H R Wallingford
16 July 2018
Links between UCL Civil Engineering and HR Wallingford go back some 50 years to when it was the government's Hydraulics Research Station. Over that period, UCL have carried out research using the large-scale facilities at Wallingford, HR Wallingford have sponsored projects and research studentships at UCL, and we have collaborated on Research Council and EU-funded projects. That collaboration continues, particularly in the fields of seabed scour and tsunami research.
Shown in the photograph are Professor Richard Whitehouse, Chief Technical Director, Coasts & Oceans, HR Wallingford, Professor John Harris, UCL Visiting Professor and Technical Director, HR Wallingford, Marijke de Vet, MSc Civil Engineering at UCL and now Graduate Scientist at HR Wallingford, Tiago Fazeres-Ferradosa, MSc researcher at UCL, PhD researcher at FEUP Porto, and currently working on HYDRALAB+ funded PROTEUS scour experiments using the large-scale physical modelling facilities at HR Wallingford with Professor Whitehouse, Dr Alejandro Hammeken, PhD at UCL and now CFD Engineer at HR Wallingford, and Professor Richard Simons, UCL.
