About the Speakers

Prof Helena Titheridge

Professor of Mobility and Sustainable Transport; USAR MRes and MRes + EngD programme director at UCL

Helena is Professor of Sustainable Transport and Mobility in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at UCL. She joined UCL in 1997, working as a researcher in the Bartlett School of Planning, before leaving for a short period to work in the Transport Studies Group at the University of Westminster in 2003. She returned to UCL in 2004. Prior to joining UCL, Helena worked in the Energy and Environment Research Unit at the Open University, where she did her PhD on the sustainability assessment of city-wide energy strategies. Helena's current research interests lie in the realm of sustainable systems, particularly transport systems. Previous research has focused on the development of decision support tools for local authorities, for analysing the impacts of transport, land-use and energy policies. More recent research has focused on the social dimensions of sustainability, including social exclusion, poverty and well-being. Helena has worked with a range of companies, government organisations and NGOs including the Department for Transport, Transport for London and Ipsos MORI. More about Prof Helena Titheridge

Prof Jose L. Torero
Professor José L. Torero is Professor of Civil Engineering and Head of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at University College London. He works in the fields of fire safety, combustion, environmental remediation and sanitation where he specializes in complex environments such as developing nations, complex urban environments, novel architectures, critical infrastructure, aircraft and spacecraft.  More about Prof José L.
