Ma Kanwen Memorial Lecture 2018

21 May 2018

Vivienne Lo (UCL CCHH) will be giving the 2nd Ma Kanwen Memorial Lecture at the Needham Research Institute, Cambridge on Friday 25 May, 4pm.

Dr Lo will be speaking on 'Professor Ma Kanwen and his Ethnographic Journey of 1954'.

Further details here.

Abstract

After graduation, and as a promising young researcher, Professor Ma Kanwen 马堪温  was sent out into the field to create a photographic record of the historical sites of some 30 eminent physicians from three millennia spanning the pre-Qin era to the Qing period (1644–1911). This presentation contextualizes his illustrious 60-year career in making the history of medicine in China, which began at the prestigious Yenching University, and will trace his journey around the temples and sacred spaces of just one of those physicians, the legendary Bian Que 扁鹊.

Venue

Needham Research Institute, 8 Sylvester Road, Cambridge CB3 9AF –
at the corner of Sylvester and Herschel Roads, behind Robinson College
