UCL hosts HL7 UK Summer School

Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th July saw UCL host the 2014 HL7 Summer School, at which 23 participants from across the UK's health IT industry and healthcare organisations learned about the latest advances in interoperability and standards. The event, a joint collaboration between HL7 UK, UCL and the University of Leeds, was taking place at UCL for the second year running.

The UCL CHIME speakers were Professor Dipak Kalra and Dr. Paul Taylor, and speakers from outside UCL included:

Participants learned about the current developments in HL7 standards, including:

  • Version 2 messages,
  • Clinical Document Architecture,
  • Fast Health Interoperability Resources

and about clinical information standards including:

  • archetypes,
  • clinical terminologies,
  • standards for the structure for patient records and patient centred records.

The course also included practical experience from the Health and Social Care Information Centre about the challenges and benefits of using interoperability standards.
The summer school will run again in July 2015, when it will be hosted by the University of Leeds.
