Palliative Care

Founded in July 2010, the academic unit of the Louis Dundas Centre works to make a tangible difference in the lives of children with life limiting or life threatening illnesses and their families.  It does so through research which impacts both practice and policy. Research is disseminated through publication, education and training as well as by working directly with both clinicians and institutions providing palliative and disease directed care and treatment.

Our work focuses on four key areas in palliative care for children and young people:

  1. the illness experience
  2. decision making about care and treatment
  3. pain and symptom management
  4. service development and delivery

Research proceeds with a keen awareness of the need to reduce barriers to research participation and to develop effective approaches to ensure the development of a robust evidence base for policy and practice.
