Childhood Leukemia

Principal Investigator, Professor Owen Williams

Research

Chromosomal translocations are frequent in infant and childhood leukaemia. These translocations often result in the generation of unique fusion genes. We investigate the function of fusion genes and downstream mediators that are commonly associated with infant and childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), using molecular and cellular modelling approaches. The goal of this research is to develop novel therapeutic approaches for leukaemias that are difficult to treat with conventional chemotherapy.
