Book Now (Hybrid)

NOTE: This course will be delivered in hybrid mode, i.e. the in-person lecture will be transmitted live on zoom. The face-to-face part of the hybrid courses will go ahead conditional on at least 5 participants registering for this mode of delivery. Few classes may be delivered exclusively online, so please check under the Future dates tab for clarification. The online part of the class will be supported by its own dedicated teaching staff (along with the lead lecturer), therefore participants can expect the same level of group and individual support as the face-to-face class. You will be able to choose your preferred mode of attendance (face-to-face or online) during registration.

Details

This is a practical course that will introduce delegates to SPSS and its uses for statistical analysis through hands-on experience. The course is suitable for individuals who are new to SPSS or who feel they would benefit from a refresher course. No prior knowledge of SPSS is assumed; however, knowledge of basic statistics (e.g. p-values, significance tests) is advantageous. The course will cover the following topics:

  • Getting started with SPSS files
  • Data entry: manually and from excel
  • Editing and organising datasets
  • SPSS options and functions
  • Descriptive statistics
  • Graphical displays
  • Parametric significance tests
  • Nonparametric significance tests

Everyone wishing to attend should ensure SPSS is installed and licensed on their computer. Where possible, we recommend using a recent version of SPSS (e.g. version 25) for maximum compatibility with the notes provided during the course.

Please note: this is not a statistical theory course, it is intended to teach delegates about the SPSS software. As such, dedicated time cannot be given to describing and explaining theory and statistical tests (these are taught on our 5 day course - 'Introduction to research methods and statistics').

Feedback

"Very useful course- the lecturer was excellent and moved at a good pace. I learned so much in a short period of time about how to use SPSS, which will certainly be relevant in my work."

"It was an excellent course covering quite a lot of material but at a pace I found I could follow. Thank you very much, I will recommend it to my colleagues."

"Just excellent!!! Teacher was clear, concise and complete!"

"It was very helpful that the trainer is a user of the application in her broader work so was able to share practical insight and tips. She was also very skilful in balancing the gaps in statistical knowledge amongst the group and the progress of the day."
