Who are the Environmental Child Health Research Group?
We are the Environmental Child Health Research Group – a team of researchers working to understand how the local environment affects children’s health as they grow up. We use data to explore these connections and aim to share our findings in ways that are helpful to families.

What is the workshop about?
We want to hear from parents and carers about how to create research summaries that are easy to understand, informative, and empowering.
Families have told us they want clear, accessible and empowering research summaries which support them without causing unnecessary worry. For example, families affected by air pollution may want information that helps them make informed decisions, even if moving to a different area isn’t possible.
This workshop will help us create guidelines for writing easy-to-understand summaries which meet these needs, making environmental health research more useful for everyone.
What will we do at the workshop?
- Duration: The online workshop will run for 1.5 hours
- Attendees: A small group of parents and careers will join the discussion
- Preparation: Before the workshop, we will email you examples of previously published research summaries. Participants are also welcome to identify and bring any environmental health research summaries that they would like to discuss
- Activities: During the workshop we will explore what is good or bad about the summaries which we sent. We will identify guidelines for best practice to create clear, helpful summaries
What will happen after?
- After the workshop we will write up our co-authored guidelines
- We will use the guidelines to rewrite research summaries
- You will have the chance to review and comment on the updated summaries and guidelines
- Once completed, we will share and promote our guidelines with the wider research community, so others can benefit from our work
- As a token of thanks for your help, we would like to offer £75 of Love2Shop vouchers for joining our workshop and £25 for the follow up review of rewritten research summaries.
When is the workshop?
We will schedule the workshop to best match the availability of the group. Please indicate the dates and times that work well for you below:
