The Cygnet Room

A room for new and expectant mothers

Cygnet Room Logo

Situated on the Ground Floor of the main GOS ICH building, behind the reception area, is the GOS ICH Athena SWAN Maternity Room, also known as the Cygnet Room.

This small room provides total privacy for any post-natal mums who wish to express breast milk in private. Any ICH/UCL member of staff or student, or visitor, who is a new mother or currently pregnant is welcome to use the room.

The room has recently been furnished with a high-backed armchair and a small table and is ready to be used. An internal lock and 'in-use' signage on the outside of the door ensures ultimate privacy and no inopportune meetings! We also have a radio and softer, colour-changing lights available, as well as a fridge installed for the storage of expressed breast milk.

This room is non-bookable and access is by digital keypad only. For the code, please contact one of the following members of staff:

Stephanie Ball: stephanie.ball@ucl.ac.uk

Katie White: k.white@ucl.ac.uk

Nicole Hofmans: n.hofmans@ucl.ac.uk

Points to note for all users of the room:

  • There is no bin in the Cygnet Room. Please take your waste with you when you leave; wet wipes and nappy sacs are available for this. The nearest bin is the in the disabled toilet next door.
  • There is no water in the Cygnet Room. Washing facilities are also in the disabled toilet next door. Drinking water is available in the refectory on the Lower Ground floor.
  • If you leave expressed breast milk in the fridge, please clearly label with your name, contact number and date. When leaving milk in the fridge, you may find that setting an alarm on your phone to remind you to collect it is helpful!
  • When leaving, please leave the room as you found it and slide the 'in-use' sign back to 'free'.
  • If the room is not as you would expect it, please contact one the above members of staff in the first instance.
