Dr Lola Solebo
I’m an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Honorary Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist. My interest is in the predictors of outcome for children with eye disease, and the translation of these findings to practice and policy. I fell in love with Epidemiology at medical school after hearing about John Snow, and fancied myself as a future medical detective. I was a PhD student at ICH PPP, and I’ve stayed because of the warmth, generosity and cross-disciplinary nature of my department, and the quality and impact of our outputs – as well as the strong relationships between ICH, GOSH and the other UCL partners such as the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre at Moorfields. What do I think of being selected as an EDI Role Model? It’s an honour, but to paraphrase Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, “We should all be role models”. We are all responsible for creating an environment where our colleagues feel welcome and heard.
