Dr Dejan-Krešimir (Krešo) Bučar

Summary
Krešo Bučar joined the Department of Chemistry in 2013 as a Lecturer and UCL Excellence Fellow. He obtained a BSc in chemistry with Dr Ernest Meštrović at the University of Zagreb, and a PhD in chemistry from the University of Iowa with Prof Leonard R. MacGillivray. He then started his independent research career as a Royal Society Newton International Fellow at the University of Cambridge with Prof William Jones. While in Cambridge, he was also a Bye-Fellow and Director of Studies at Sidney Sussex College. Krešo’s research interests mainly concern organic crystalline materials and their applications.
Summary of research group

Our group studies structures and properties of organic crystalline materials. We investigate how principles of crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry can be utilized to improve solid-state properties of pharmaceutically relevant compounds, dyes, pigments and electronic materials. We also have a keen interest in polymorphism of molecular crystals, organic nano(co)crystals, as well as in the possible role of crystal chemistry in the origins of life.

Our research is highly multi-disciplinary and benefits from close collaborations with physicists, materials chemists, pharmaceutical scientists and computational chemists.
