Clare's research interests lie in the application of inorganic and organometallic chemistry to challenges related to sustainability and the environment. This has involved research into bio-derived and degradable polymers, the activation of small molecules and the development of methods to break strong chemical bonds.
Her independent research focuses on the development of new methodologies to enable precise control on product formation in catalytic reactions. She's also interested in developing unusual and highly reactive main group species.

Having graduated from the University of Leeds (MChem) in 2010, Clare moved to London to conduct her PhD research under the supervision of Prof Charlotte Williams and Prof Nick Long at Imperial College. During this time she developed catalysts for the stereospecific ring-opening polymerisation of bio-derived monomers; for this research she was awarded the inorganic section prize at the Imperial College PhD Symposium. She completed her PhD in 2013 and was subsequently awarded an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship.
Clare spent a year working for catalyst start-up company Econic technologies, before returning to academic research, taking up a post-doctoral position with Dr Mark Crimmin. Here, her work mainly focussed on the activation of strong chemical bonds using highly reactive, low-valent main group compounds.
In October 2018, she started her independent research career as a Ramsay Fellow at University College London.
