Dr Victoria Hilborne

Senior Teaching Fellow

Vicky Hilborne is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Chemistry. Her areas of expertise are physical chemistry applied to analytical and environmental chemistry. Vicky has considerable experience in the design and delivery of teaching and learning in higher education. Particular interests are developing integrated and blended learning in problem based learning with lectures and practical-workshop based teaching. This includes research informed teaching and developing research skills that are highly valued by graduate employers. Vicky has a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Chemistry from Edinburgh University. She gained her PhD in measurement of contaminant dispersion in ventilated indoor air and predictive model development at London South Bank University (LSBU) in 2012. During her time at LSBU she also developed portable detectors of contaminants of drugs in drinks and airborne pollutants. Her research activities included detection and dispersion modelling of contaminants in water and air, from drugs in surface waters to hazardous gas emissions in nuclear fuel reprocessing.  Prior to LSBU she worked as a Food Health and Safety Scientist for Camden BRI (formerly Brewing Research International). Vicky is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an active member of the Royal Society of Chemistry where she has presented her work at associated conferences and workshops.
