Quentin Meyer

Research Associate

Quentin Meyer obtained his Master of Electrochemical Engineering, major on Power sources, from Grenoble Institute of Technology (France) in 2011. He has worked on fuel cells of Intelligent Energy Ltd during his Master’s research project. His focus was characterising the different methods used to increase the performance. Since October 2011, he has started his PhD in Advanced diagnosis of Fuel Cell Stacks.

Title: Advanced Diagnoses of Fuel Cell stacks of Intelligent Energy
Supervisors: Dr Dan Brett and Dr Paul Shearing

PEMFCs offer the possibility of zero-emission electricity generation. However, large scale commercialisation is hindered by issues related to fuel cell stacks. Heat and water management is very challenging because a defected cell can have a big influence on the overall stack behaviour.

The aim of this project is to develop new advanced diagnostics techniques to investigate the internal working of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) stacks. It involves development of a low cost impedance spectroscopy software, and also heat mapping using infra-red thermal imaging, for the characterisation of a commercial stack of Intelligent Energy.
