We are delighted to announce that the 2023-24 Process Plant Design Project Team AF has won the inaugural Centre of Engineering Education-Faculty of Engineering Sciences CEE-FES Student Project Prize 2023-24, in the category of ‘Best Ethical Analysis in a Design/Research Project'.

This distinction goes to Team AF (Aromatic Fusion) members Tara Morad Ali Goldarreh, Talal Alam, Jingxin Zhou, Sizhuo Chen, Elias Mohd Nadiman and Chester Zheng (pictured left to right below) .

The award recognises their excellent work in integrating ethical considerations into their design of a chemical plant, by providing recommendations on how to navigate the ethical issues surrounding the use of artificial intelligence (AI), provided by a third-party company, on their chemical process plant design project. In their report, Team AF presented a comprehensive review of the potential social, economic, environmental and safety implications of implementing AI within their designed process plant winning them the CEE-FES award.
The team was recognised at an awards ceremony celebrating students’ project work, as well as teaching support provided by teaching assistants and staff, on the 22nd of October 2024 at the UCL South Cloisters. The students presented their work to the attending audience and were presented with project award certificates and gifts.
Very many congratulations to Team AF (Aromatic Fusion) on this well-deserved recognition!
