STEM for BRITAIN is a major scientific poster competition and exhibition that has been held in Parliament since 1997 and is organised by the Parliamentary & Scientific Committee. Chaired by George Freeman FRSA MP, its aim is to give members of both Houses of Parliament an insight into the outstanding research being undertaken in UK universities by early-career researchers. This year, the event was held on 11th March 2025.
We are delighted to announce that Dr Nidhi Kapil, Research Fellow at the Centre for Nature-Inspired Engineering (CNIE) at UCL, was selected as a finalist to present her pioneering research on Gold-based antimicrobial surfaces to tackle the challenge of anti-microbial resistance (AMR). Her outstanding work earned her the gold medal in the Engineering category, recognising her significant contribution to tackling this critical global health issue.
In addition to this prestigious award, Dr Kapil was also shortlisted as a finalist for the Westminster Medal, further highlighting her exceptional achievements in the field.
