Leadership Appointments - Prof Eva Sorensen (Dept HoD) and Prof Marc-Olivier Coppens (Eng Vice Dean)

We are delighted to announce that Prof Eva Sorensen has been confirmed Head of Department (HoD) of Chemical Engineering for the next four years. Prof Sorensen has held the position of Interim HoD since 1st January 2020.

Prof Eva Sorensen has previously held the position of Deputy Head (Education) and has been a valued member of UCL staff for over two decades. Her highlighted achievements include winning the UCL Faculty of Engineering Excellence in Teaching Award in 2002, winning the PROSE Award for Chemistry & Physics in 2015, as well as winning the IChemE's Frank Morton Medal in 2017 and a SEFI Fellowship Award in 2018.

"It has been a pleasure and an honour to have led the department through a very turbulent year as Interim Head, and I am delighted to be continuing at the helm for another four years. Our staff, researchers and students are truly unique, working closely together in solving not only the challenges of today but also of tomorrow, delivering the Engineering Faculty’s vision to Change the World." Said Prof Eva Sorensen, Head of Department of Chemical Engineering.

Prof Marc-Olivier Coppens will now become Vice Dean for Interdisciplinarity (Innovation) in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, after a successful seven-year run at the helm of the Department from August 2012.

"It has been a tremendous privilege to lead this department with its fabulous staff and students, to a position where it is now recognised as in the Top 20 globally, with innovative education, world leading research, an enterprising spirit, and strength in diversity. I am especially proud about the incomparable community feeling amongst our talented staff, who equip our students and researchers with the “can do” attitude and tools to succeed. At this time, I am delighted to pass the baton to Professor Eva Sorensen, who shares the same values and passion for our students and staff. I look forward to serving UCL, its Engineering Faculty, but ultimately also the Department as the first Vice Dean for Interdisciplinarity, to promote an outward looking vision to approach Grand Challenges." Said Prof Marc-Olivier Coppens, Vice Dean for Interdisciplinarity (Innovation) in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences.
