Spring into STEM | UCL Chemical Engineering: Teaching Process Plant Design | Virtual Lecture Series

Abstract:

Chemical Engineering is an applied subject and the chemical engineering design elements of the degree programme give students the opportunity to apply the fundamental knowledge they are gaining in their degree to create a system, process, product or plant to meet an identified need. In the third year capstone Process Plant Design Project module students develop further the knowledge they have gained in earlier modules and apply this to the design of a chemical processing plant. Students work on industrially relevant problems which are examined from a variety of perspectives including sustainability, safety, economics and computational modelling. There is also considerable focus on transferable skills such as communication and team working. In this taster lecture we will go through some of the industrially relevant design problems and perspectives that students examine as part of this course.
