Background: Share the Load

Office housework, such as planning events and cleaning up catering after a meeting, can be aggravating; expecting members of marginalized groups to perform these tasks means preventing them from tackling more meaningful work.

Actions: Share the Load

1) Share the work among the team.

2) Set up a rotation for tasks like taking minutes or scheduling the next meeting.

3) If you’re in a position of privilege or authority, model better behaviour yourself by clearing the lunch leftovers or used coffee mugs, rather than assuming someone else will take care of it.

4) Never assume that certain co-workers are shouldering office housework because they “enjoy” it or find it “rewarding.”
