Former Universities and Science Minister David Willetts and author of the acclaim A University Education, will speak about the challenges facing higher education, industry and engineering education. He will answer audience questions and the lecture will be followed by a book signing. 

David Willetts was Minister for Universities and Science in the Coalition government, and MP for Havant from 1992 – 2015. He is a member of the House of Lords, Chancellor of Leicester University, a Visiting Professor at King’s College London, and Board Member or UKRI (UK Research and Innovation). He served as an official in HM Treasury and in Margaret Thatcher’s No. 10 Policy Unit. He has written widely on economic and social policy. His previous book was The Pinch: How the Baby Boomers took their Children’s Future­ – and Why they should Give it Back. Chair of the Resolution Foundation, he is Senior Adviser to 2U, an American ed tech company, and Honorary Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford.

This event is part of the Engineering Professors’ Council Annual Congress 2019 and is held in association with UCL's Centre for Engineering Education, the Institution of Engineering & Technology and Mathworks.
