Robotics is an area that draws together many different research fields and technical skills, coupling them with considerations that include the legal, ethical, and those from human factors, in the creation of the society of the future. At present, we do not know what society will look like in a century; but we can have high confidence that robots will form a significant part of it. As such, it provides an ideal domain within which to break down the barriers between education, research, engagement, and enterprise.
You are invited to participate in this UCL EAST programme design workshop, in collaboration with the Centre for Engineering Education, to hear more from Prof Steve Hailes and colleagues about the programmes being built around the Robotics and Autonomous Systems Research Centre. Across Pool Street West and Marshgate I, UCL EAST will host an Undergraduate course in robotics and AI, as well as two Masters courses: the first in sensor systems, the second also in robotics and AI. These courses will be experimental in nature – they will involve both the learning of academic principles and the development of practical skills in making, underpinned by a robust education in experimental design and system engineering.
The workshop will provide a creative space to:    identify opportunities arising out of cross-programme and student interactions for students of Robotics and AI and other courses being developed for UCL East;  hear about the broader societal challenges in Robotics and AI and those specific to Engineering disciplines;  explore the benefits of working together at UCL EAST around Robotics and AI,  discuss the opportunities for the development of new future-facing programmes.

The workshop outputs will inform the curriculum development activity for UCL EAST programmes and inform future collaborations between programme designers.
The session is open to all UCL EAST programme leaders, teaching Fellows, Faculty Tutors as well as those from across UCL. Please feel free to sign up by email to Anne anne.preston@ucl.ac.uk or, if you have already received your outlook invite, accept it and forward it to any interested colleagues.
