Translation and Circulation of Romanian and Slavonic Liturgical Books in Wallachia, Transylvania, and Moldavia Understanding the Establishment of Romanian as Church Language in the Sixteenth Century based on Two Case Studies: Psalter and Apostolos Texts

Supervisors: Prof Martin Maiden (Oxford), Prof Ralph Cleminson (Oxford)

My work focuses on identifying the original sources used for translating the Psalter text, the Acts of the Apostles and the Catholic Epistles into Romanian, and the production and circulation of religious books within the Romanian territory in the 16th and 17th centuries. Besides providing a philological analysis of these texts, I also work on the historical and cultural context of the area north of Danube at that time. My intention is to better understand the circulation of religious books within the territories of Transylvania, Wallachia and Moldavia, their textual tradition, and their connection to the surrounding cultural milieux.
