Sustainability Sector Insight Events

Want to be part of developing a sustainable future? Discover how you can use your skills to create change throughout our sector insight events.

Overview

Meet employers at the forefront of sustainable business, research, policy, consulting and innovation in sectors such as infrastructure, government, energy and more! 
Whatever your degree, a career in sustainability could be your future. 

How to prepare

Speaker profiles will be provided for each event, allowing you to do some initial research before attending. This will help you ask insightful questions at the events themselves.

We would recommend that you read through the range of help sheets and resources recommended on our resource library on effective networking and the relevant sector guides below, to better understand job roles, key employers and emploment opportunities, sources of sector news and information, and how UCL can help you:

We will also run a regular series of lunchtime talks on effective networking at events as part of our Career Essentials programme which provide tips and advice on building your professional networks.

How to Start Your Sustainable Career with UCL Sustainability

This event has already taken place.

Friday 6 October, 1pm-2pm

Sustainability is a hot topic. Increasingly, more employers are looking for students with sustainability skills and literacy. And not just in environmentally focused jobs, but in engineering, retail, urban planning and many more! There is a huge range of opportunities in this rapidly growing sector.

Over the hour, we will introduce you to a range of different volunteering opportunities available at UCL and explore how participating will not only increase your chances of getting a job in sustainability but also broaden your skill set in a topic that is rapidly becoming part of every industry.

Come along to this session and learn about all the opportunities you can get involved in at UCL to improve your chances of securing a sustainable career whilst also learning about how sustainable skills and practices can be useful for any career.

Preparing Your CV Roles in Sustainability

Thursday 23 November, 5:30pm-7pm

Careers Consultant Glyn Jones will deliver a CV Workshop offering advice and guidance on putting together a quality CV. During the session we will be discussing the fundamentals of what makes a good CV as well as thinking of specific information that could be included to make you an attractive candidate for roles associated with the sustainability industry.

During the session we will cover:

  • What makes a good CV
  • How best to present information
  • Tailoring your CV
  • Sustainability specific qualities

Throughout the workshop you’ll gain tips and advice on practical steps you can take to improve your CV as well as the opportunity to ask any questions.

Roles in Business & Consulting

Are you interested in environmental and sustainability roles linked to business or consulting? Do you want to find out about the cutting edge initiatives striving to help organisations achieve net zero?

Join us for this panel event with employees from a range of different roles from across the sector.

You'll hear from our speakers, many of whom are UCL Alumni, talking about the impact they're having on creating a sustainable future. As well as insights from their own careers, you'll have the chance to ask panellists your questions and get the latest career development tips.

Careers in Climate & Environmental Sector

Thursday 14 March, 1pm-2pm

Are you interested in sustainability roles associated with the climate and environmental sectors? Do you want to find out how organisations are using their scientific knowledge in a business context?

Join us for this panel event with employees from a range of different roles from across the sector, including representatives from Ride Commerce, Rothamsted Research, Sahel AI, TBC..

You'll hear from our speakers, some of whom will be UCL Alumni, talking about the impact they're having on creating a sustainable future. As well as insights from their own careers, you'll have the chance to ask panellists your questions and get the latest career development tips.
