Whether you don't yet know what life holds post-graduation and want to explore the wide range of career options open to you, or you may have some ideas in mind and want to find out more about these - there is a lot of support available to help you. 


Online Careers Library

Career Discovery provides a range of resources to help with career planning, including tips on exploring your options, sector guides, and advice on building your professional network. Look out for articles written by UCL for top tips or browse a range of helpful articles from TARGETjobs.

If you already have an idea about the areas that you want to explore, search by sector or job type, such as charities, politics, engineering, law, banking, advertising, etc. or check out our list of sector specific articles.


Come to an event

We organise a wide range of events where you can find out more about more about options and opportunities for graduates in a variety of different industry sectors.

  • Career Essentials programme, (repeated regularly throughout the year). A series of lunchtime lectures led by our team for all students and recent graduates which includes sessions on understanding the graduate job market and career planning / decision-making amongst other topics. 
  • Employer presentations, (autumn and spring terms). Talks by individual companies about their current vacancies which will usually include a labour market overview for the sector they operate in.
  • Sector Insight events, (autumn and spring terms). Panel / networking events bringing together professionals from a range of sectors popular with UCL students to provide insider insights into what working in specific roles is really like.
  • Sector-specific recruitment fairs, (autumn term only). Network with large numbers of major graduate recruiters from a few key sectors to learn more about options / entry routes available.
  • Departmental events, (timings vary based on course / department). Keep an eye on the myUCLCareers events calendar for lectures and workshops within your department delivered by the UCL Careers team or organisations who target your area of study.
  • Researchers employability programme, (repeated throughout the year). A series of Careers Consultant led talks and employer-led information / networking events aimed at research students and staff which includes sessions on career planning or sectors which target those with research backgrounds.

Alumni / professional networking

Alumni networking - UCL graduates or other industry professionals can be a great source of information and inspiration when you are thinking about your future career. Through LinkedIn you can search for alumni by UCL course or department, job sector, current organisation, location, and more. Many UCL alumni will be happy to connect with you and tell you about their current role or industry. This is a great way to explore your career ideas and expand your professional network.
