Employer Led Practice Assessment Centres
you expect to attend an employer's assessment centre this year, for
either a graduate job or internship, then you can practice first by
attending this mock assessment centre.
Each Assessment Centre is provided by a range of employers from different sectors. You don't have to be applying to the employers or sectors involved as they will be running general exercises typical of assessment centres run by any company.
You will complete:
- a competency based interview
- a group exercise
- a presentation
and receive feedback on how you have performed in each area.
You will also have the chance to network with the graduate recruiters taking part in the event.
Outcomes: Participating in this session will enable you to:
- Increase your familiarity with the range of exercises used by graduate employers in assessment centres
- Identify your own strengths and weaknesses across a range of assessment centre exercises
- Use feedback from actual graduate employers to improve your performance at assessment centres
- Approach real graduate assessment centres with increased confidence
The Skills4Work programme focuses on skills which are common in any graduate job. You therefore do not need to be interested in applying to the companies who are involved with a particular practice assessment centre as the focus will be the skills, not the sector they work in.
The Help With... section of our website suggests a range of resources on preparing for Assessment Centres.
Using these in advance will help you get more out of this event.
The Help With... section of our website also suggests a range of resources, other events and one-to-one support available to anyone who is preparing to attend an assessment centre.
For all UCL Careers Events, please aim to arrive 5 minutes before
the published start time.
If you arrive late and the event has already started, the facilitator reserves the right to refuse entry so that you don't disrupt the event for other attendees who arrived on time.
If you miss the event due to late arrival, you will also lose your deposit.
For those who have registered and paid the deposit, you can cancel up to one working day before the event is due to take place and receive a your deposit back in full. If you cancel with less notice, (for any reason), or simply don't turn up, you will lose the deposit.
Our Mock Assessment Centres only run in the Autumn and Spring Terms so the programme has now finished for this academic year.
However, our Global Citizenship Employability Programme which runs in June will be covering aspects of assessment centres. This is for second, penultimate or final year Undergraduates and Master's students.
We also have many resources on preparing for assessment centres available on our Interview and Assessment Centres page.
Receive Email Alerts...
If you would like to be notified by email when other similar events and workshops are open for booking, we recommend that you register for UCLAlert!.
You MUST register your interest in advance and then pay a returnable £20 cash deposit in person at UCL Careers if you wish to attend any Practice Assessment Centre. This enables us to monitor attendance levels and ensure that they are more effective for those attending.
Places are allocated
to those making the payment on a first come, first served basis and more
students register interest online than there are places available so
will remain on a reserve list after registering until we receive your deposit. We therefore
recommend early payment to avoid disappointment!
Registration is done through your "My UCL Careers" account. If you're using this for the first time, please read the My UCL Careers Instructions carefully before trying to log in.
You can register TWO weeks before an event is due to take place and bookings will close when it is fully booked or, at the latest, 1 working day before the event.
Can I attend if I haven't booked?
Unfortunately NO! Assessment Centres are popular and usually fully booked. They are also hosted at company premises and require an attendance list to be confirmed in advance so it won't be possible to turn up on the day if you haven't registered and paid your deposit.
If places do become available through last minute cancellations, we will contact those who have registered but not paid to see if you're still able to attend at short notice - please ensure you have a current mobile number on your My UCL Careers profile so we can do this.
Notification of future events
To ensure you find out when a workshop you're interested in is available for booking, we strongly recommend that you register with UCLAlert!
