BEAMS & UCL East Team

The BEAMS team support UCL students from The School of the Built Environment (The Bartlett), the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MAPS) career development.

Meet the BEAMS & UCL East team  

Carla King, Careers Projects Officer

From 2015, I worked as a Careers Consultant supporting students from across the Engineering Faculty, as well as disabled students at UCL. During this time, I achieved my Postgraduate Certificate in Career Coaching. Before joining UCL, I worked in both the private and public sectors in various industries, as both a Graduate Recruiter and Graduate Development Manager for 15 years, recruiting, creating and managing intern and graduate programmes for hundreds of students and graduates.  

In my current role, I use these career insights to create resources which support our students in their career search, as well as helping them to prepare for the workplace environment, be they an intern, industrial placement or graduate.

Catherine Casale, Careers Consultant

Catherine

Catherine is the Careers Consultant allocated to Natural Sciences and Science and Technology Studies (STS) for the MAPS faculty. She is also responsible for Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA), Development Planning Unit (DPU), Institute for Global Prosperity (IGP) and Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP) within the Bartlett.

Her interests and training (history and politics, creative and life writing, psychology) along with an international perspective combine to inform her workshop design and one-to-one guidance work.

Amy Lourenco, Deputy Head (on maternity leave)

Amy

Amy is Deputy Head and a Senior Careers Consultant in the BEAMS team.

She has taught on several employability modules and presented at national Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) conferences. Amy holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Careers Guidance and a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. She is also a Higher Education Academy Fellow. 

Nikki Baxter, Careers Officer

Nikki maintains relationships with key employers to promote the profile of UCL MAPS (Maths, Statistical Science, Chemistry, Physics, Natural Science, Earth Science and Science and Technology studies) students.

Nikki delivers one to one CV and application advice appointments with (MAPS) students at UCL. Sourcing graduate jobs and internship vacancies suitable for UCL MAPS students and promoting these to students via the weekly MAPS newsletter.

Hannah Posner, Engineering Team Leader

Hannah P

Hannah manages the Engineering Faculty Careers Team, who work with students from across the Engineering Faculty to enhance their employability skills, through organising employer events, sourcing internships and graduate roles, and running employability workshops and 1:1 sessions.

Before coming to UCL, Hannah worked in the Environmental and Water sectors, including running Wastewater Treatment Works in London and a Technology innovation accelerator with companies across Europe.

Emiliana Di Donna, Employer Engagement and Event Officer (Engineering, on secondment)

Emiliana is a member of the UCL Engineering Careers Team and one of the Engineering Faculty’s links to industry. She helps employers plan their student engagement strategy and gives them access to Engineering talent through a series of events and opportunities that aim to upskill and inform.
Prior to this, Emiliana worked in the private sector. She was an Account Manager in the Museums and Heritage sector. She managed the commercial relationship with some of the most iconic museums and historical sites in UK and Europe.  
 

Lee Pike, Careers Consultant

Lee

Lee is the nominated careers contact for the departments of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering; Bartlett School of Architecture; Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction; Bartlett School of Planning; Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources; Space and Climate Physics; Physics and Astronomy; and, the Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction.

Prior to being a Careers Consultant, Lee was a Civil Engineer specialising in Transport Planning with 27 years' experience working in both the private and public sectors as well as in the UK and overseas. 

Sue-Zhen Yong, Work Related Learning Manager

As the Work-Related Learning Manager, Sue-Zhen manages the work related learning programme, designed to boost the employability and careers education of BEAMS students through experiential and industry-focussed activities. Prior to joining UCL, Sue-Zhen started her career in graduate recruitment with Give a Grad a Go, running the on-campus marketing strategy before moving onto working within member engagement at the Energy Institute, a leading energy professional body.

Mary Ojo, BEAMS Work Related Learning Officer

Mary studied Human Sciences at UCL and during her time as a student she had the opportunity to work as a Careers Extra Champion with the UCL Careers Extra team and as a Project administrator in the Leadership and Lifelong learning department in  NHS England (East of England team).

Mary looks forward to applying all that she has learnt so far as she undertakes her role as a Work-related Learning Officer in the BEAMS team. She is most excited to work with students and help them to build up skills that will prepare them for the workplace in future!

Barnaby Mollett, UCL East Team Leader

Barnaby is the Careers Team Leader for UCL East with UCL Careers, leading on both strategic development and operational delivery of careers education at the UCL East campus. He also co-leads teaching on the Find Your Future postgraduate taught module (ENGF0025). He's previously worked in careers and employability for the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and Imperial College London, as well as running his own career coaching business, managing projects supporting students in career planning and gaining insights into the world of work, including career mentoring (co-founding the AGCAS career mentoring task group), internship programmes, and international focused events and resources for the US, Canada and China.

Tomoyo Miyakawa, Employer Engagement & Work-Related Learning Manager (SCCI)

Tomoyo is responsible for developing industry partnerships with a focus on student employability and for delivering a wide range of work-related learning activities for undergraduate and postgraduate students across the School for the Creative & Cultural Industries (SCCI) at UCL East.

Before joining UCL, Tomoyo worked in the Marketing Department at the London Symphony Orchestra for 10 years. She also managed employability projects at the West Hampstead Women’s Centre.

Wendy Browne, Acting Deputy Head

Wendy is Acting Deputy Head for BEAMS & UCL East. Wendy has a background in employer engagement, leading embedding employability in the curriculum from this perspective and teaching placement modules. She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has presented at several AGCAS conferences.

Katja Gee, Employer Engagement and Events Officer (Engineering)

Katja works as a part of the UCL Engineering Careers Team. In her role she helps to connect employers and UCL students through a programme of events and skill building opportunities. Prior to starting at UCL, Katja worked in the Higher Education sector in Canada.

Sharon King, Careers Consultant

Sharon is a Careers Consultant for the BEAMS team. Her career history spans many sectors from private, public, charities and start-ups. She has over 10 years’ experience working in the careers coaching space and employability. She has been a recruiter for the Electrical Engineering industry and is a Senior Accredited Coach with the European Mentoring Coaching Council.

Sarah Goldstone, Employer Engagement & Work-Related Learning Manager (UCL East)

Sarah is responsible for developing industry and alumni partnerships with a focus on student employability and for delivering a wide range of work-related learning activities for undergraduate and postgraduate students at UCL East.

Before joining UCL, Sarah worked as Employer Engagement Manager at Education Development Trust supporting of one of their dedicated regional employability programmes. Prior to this, Sarah worked at The University of Leeds for 18 years initially organising major and targeted recruitment fairs before moving on to creating placement year and internship opportunities within and outside a dedicated work placement year module.

Anick Soni, Employer Engagement & Work-Related Learning Officer (SCCI)

Anick Soni (He/Him) supports the School for Creative and Cultural Industries (SCCI) as the Employer Engagement and Work-Related Learning Officer. His focus is on building meaningful relationships between students, alumni, and external stakeholders across the arts. He has an extensive background working in Higher Education, Media, and Diversity & Inclusion.

Outside of UCL, Anick is a multidisciplinary Creative Consultant, Writer, and Researcher. He has a degree in Law and has completed further studies, research, and practice in Psychology, Childhood and Children's Rights, and Adult and Child Relationships using social work techniques including the use of Motivational Interviewing and Systems Therapy. Anick is also known for facilitating engaging workshops, crafting meticulous investigative reports, and providing invaluable consultations across sectors.
