Career options in Museums in the digital era

Tuesday 7 October, 5:30pm-7pm

This event has already taken place.

During this online panel session, we’ll explore how museums are evolving in response to rapid digital transformation. From digitised collections to immersive technologies, the digital is no longer separate from the physical—it’s reshaping how museums operate, engage audiences, and tell stories. We’ll discuss how institutions are integrating tools like AI to personalise visitor experiences, and how platforms like social media are becoming essential for outreach, education, and community building.

What does this mean for your career? We’ll look at emerging roles in digital curation, audience engagement, data analysis, and tech innovation within the museum sector. You’ll gain insights into the most in-demand skills—from digital literacy and content creation to UX design and ethical AI use—and practical steps students and early-career professionals can take to prepare for a dynamic and meaningful career in museums in the digital age. We will be discussing this with speakers working in various roles across museums. Please check back later for full profiles of the speakers who will be joining the panel discussion.
