HGNC Gene Annotation

While based at UCL, HGNC provided Gene Ontology (GO) annotation of proteins during the process of assigning approved gene names and symbols.

For eleven years, from 1996-2007, the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee (HGNC) was chaired by Professor Sue Povey and based at University College London. While at UCL a 3 year HGNC GO annotation project, funded by the Wellcome Trust, was undertaken, from 2004 - 2007. The project co-ordinator was Ruth Lovering and over 5000 GO annotations were created.

Annotations contributed by this project to the GO Consortium dataset are attributed to HGNC-UCL.
