(PhD Studentship for Malaysian National in Cancer Research)
We are seeking applications from highly motivated candidates for a 3 year PhD Studentship in the UCL Cancer Institute, to commence in the 2015/16 academic year (ideally between Feb and June 2016). This studentship is funded from collaboration between the UCL Cancer Institute Research Trust and a Malaysian Charity partner; UCL fees at the overseas rate and stipend commencing at £16,321 p.a. are included.
Applicants should hold at least an Upper Second Class Honours Degree (2.1). Candidates will also need to meet UCL’s English language proficiency requirements. They should have a strong academic background in the biological sciences and a demonstrated desire to pursue research in line with those of the Cancer Institute’s research groups. A Master’s degree and research experience are also highly desirable. This studentship is only open to applicants of Malaysian Nationality who hold a valid passport.
The UCL Cancer Institute is the hub for cancer research at University College London. The Institute draws together over 300 talented scientists who are working together to translate research discoveries into developing better, more effective treatments and outcomes for cancer patients. We wish to increase our collaborative ties with Malaysia by recruiting an outstanding MPhil/PhD student whom we will match with a cutting edge research project. The projects currently available for this scholarship are:
- Role of the SHOC2 phosphatase complex in tissue homeostasis and RAS-driven tumorigenesis
- Phosphatase-mediated APC/C control and cancer
- Roles of non-coding RNAs for cellular lifespan in fission yeast
- Telomerase activation at telomeres
- Cohesin regulates chromosome structure and gene function in glioblastoma
- Identifying the epigenetic determinants of CD4+ killer T cell function
- Retinoblastoma protein loss as a potentially actionable event in small cell lung cancer
