Professor Gerald de Haan, University Medical Centre Groningen, presents: (Two) Cell-intrinsic pathways that regulate hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal, Thursday 20 October 12pm
Hematopoietic stem cells carefully balance selfrenewal and differentiation, in order to sustain peripheral blood cell homeostasis during the lifetime of an organism. We have recently uncovered two pathways that control selfrenewal decisions, both in mouse and man. The first involved microRNA125, which is uniquely able to induce long-term repopulating stem cell potential in non-stem cells. The second involves the epigenetic Polycomb group protein Cxb7, which is essential for selfrenewal in both normal and leukemic stem cells.
