Professor Andrew McAinsh, University of Warwick presents: Cell-type specific requirements for human chromosome segregation.

UCL Cancer Institute, 72 Huntley Street
Professor McAinsh’s lab is focused on understanding the mechanisms that enable error-free chromosome segregation in human cells. At the heart of this is the kinetochore – a multi-protein machine that provides a physical connection between chromosomes and the mitotic spindle. Kinetochores not only power chromosome movement, but also mediates the spindle assembly checkpoint that delays anaphase onset until all chromosomes are correctly attached. In this talk Prof McAinsh will present our latest results showing how the requirements for kinetochore functions are not fixed and depend on cell type specific events.
