National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Blood and Transplant Research Units (BTRUs) are research partnerships between universities and NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT). BTRUs support the needs of NHSBT for research to improve the supply of blood, blood products, stem cells and tissues and organs for transplantation.
The NIHR BTRU in Stem Cells and Immunotherapies was an interdisciplinary partnership between University College London (UCL), King's College London, Queen Mary University of London and NHS Blood and Transplant. The aim of the unit was to optimise the selection of blood donors and to improve haematopoietic stem cell transplantation and immune therapies.
NIHR funding for the Blood and Transplant Research Unit in Stem Cells and Immunotherapies at UCL ended on 31 July 2022.
