Are you our next Global Internship Host?
22 January 2020
Could you give a UCL student the summer internship opportunity of a lifetime? We're looking for more overseas based UCL alumni to support UCL students by hosting them as a student intern this summer.
Providing a summer internship is an amazing opportunity for students.Work experience, particularly overseas, can be the differentiator for students and their future career aspirations. At UCL we are incredibly fortunate to have an amazing alumni network who can support our bright and enthusiastic students in this way.
Interested in providing an internship? Get in touch with Careers’ Global Internship team and find out more. Round one proposals for interns close on 10 February, and round two closes on 11 March.
What is the Global Internships Programme?
The Global Internship programme is an opportunity for organisations based outside of the UK to recruit UCL students for internships taking place between June and September 2020. Whether you’ve taken interns in the past, or have no experience at all, we can support you throughout the process of recruiting from UCL by advertising your role and shortlisting suitable candidates. Read more about the programme here.
Host organisation perspective
“I have nothing but good things to say about this programme! From their pre-selection to their follow-up processes, UCL has been nothing but professional and effective. We absolutely loved working with UCL and we will continue this partnership in the future!”
In 2019, students undertook internships in marketing, teaching, business development, teaching and translation, amongst others. They took place in countries all over the world, with Europe and Asia being particularly popular destinations. Two of our most popular internships took place at UCL alumni organisations, including a research lab in Japan and a brand consultancy in Hong Kong! We are keen to build on this success in 2020.
What does it involve?
You will need to be able to provide a genuine learning opportunity that will be of benefit both to the intern and your organisation. You must also be able to provide some sort of salary or other financial compensation (such as flights and accommodation). UCL Careers can provide advice and support when talking through your opportunity with you, before inviting you to upload the details onto our online platform between January to March 2020.
“My global internship was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Although it was nerve-wracking at first, if students want to learn more about the world, other people and most importantly themselves, I highly recommend taking on an opportunity like this.”
What are the benefits of being involved?
- make a difference to students and develop their career opportunities globally, some of whom will have never worked overseas before
- give back to UCL in a way meaningful way in your area of speciality
- gain access to bright and enthusiastic students
- advance a project at your organisation
- benefit from new fresh ways of thinking.
Proposals for internships are now open. Round one proposals for interns close on 10 February, and round two closes on 11 March.
