IAA Festival 2018: Shipwrecks, Sailors and Serpents

1 August 2018

Create shadow puppetry in the Petrie Museum inspired by ancient tales.

Petrie

The Petrie Museum is home to an estimated 80,000 objects, illuminating life in the Nile Valley from prehistory through the time of the pharoahs, the Romans, the Coptics and beyond.

As part of the It’s All Academic Festival on Saturday 15 September, the Petrie will open up its collections for a different use – to fire the imaginations of guests young and old and help them to create new stories inspired by ancient tales.

Join the Petrie throughout the day to explore its collection of papyri and shabti (figurines created to accompany the dead to the afterlife) and uncover tales of shipwrecked sailors, monstrous serpents, adventure and magic. Then get creative with your own ideas and create shadow puppetry to tell your story live in the museum.

Suitable for ages six and above – find out more and book your place now: bit.ly/ovpdhands
