IAA Festival 2018: Get hands on at UCL

1 August 2018

From conducting a robot orchestra to playing Prime Minister – get hands on with the future at the It’s All Academic Festival.

Hands on

How would it feel to play with a yo-yo on Mars – and how does recreating that effect help people with paralysis to move again?
Join UCL on Saturday 15 September for the It’s All Academic Festival to try out the latest technology and ideas, meet academics and students, and explore how research is making a difference to lives.
With activities for all ages, visitors can track their brain power using light, play Fantasy Frontbench by choosing their own dream cabinet based on the issues that matter to them most, or try out a virtual reality video game that is transforming our understanding of dementia.
UCL Mechanical Engineering will present a vision of the world in 2068 with a fast-paced showcase taking in energy, nanotechnology, robotics, biomechanics and much more. The Bartlett will lead a project to recreate UCL’s iconic portico while astronomers will help you to recreate the Earth itself.
UCL’s museums will also hold special activities through the day, including the opportunity to invent a brand new animal in the Grant Museum or tell new stories with shadow puppetry in the Petrie.
Between activities you can chill out with live music, food and drink stalls or a screening of AlphaGo – the story of an algorithm that took on a world champion Go player.
