From CV guidance to interview tips, the support Ajaz Hussain (PGCE in Adult & Community Education, 2005) has given to the UCL community is extensive.
For members of our Alumni Online Community, Ajaz is a familiar face. Drawing on his professional experience as a career counsellor, Ajaz has helped many alumni and current students on the platform. He's been a huge help for many members of the UCL community during significant moments in their lives, including settling into new jobs and navigating career changes.
Ajaz credits the Alumni Online Community with enabling him to easily volunteer his time. He says the platform “provides the perfect space to help those in need of career and general life advice. The online aspect allows you to work with people irrespective of location. Also, the open, welcoming UCL Alumni Team made this an enjoyable, engaging, and meaningful experience!”
His drive to support fellow UCL graduates comes from within: “being of service to others is a core value for me, particularly in recent times. I pray that we can become more proactive and play whatever small role we can to be more generous, caring and helpful.”
“You get such a great sense of satisfaction and fulfilment in enabling others to cope with and actively manage the challenges they are facing. However small your contribution, it could make all the difference to someone else!”
Ajaz hopes that the people he's helped will feel inspired to pay it forward: “Volunteering enables people to make important decisions that transform not just their own lives, but the lives of their families and their communities more widely."
