Animations
Wherever you are in UCL, there's a sense of dynamism and possibility. Our animations help you add it to your videos, events and presentations.
The following guidance covers:
- Non-editable animated logos (available for download)
Advanced animation assets (available on request)
Animated logos
Our animated logos can’t be edited, but are simple to add to videos or presentations. They come in four types: simple in and out bookends, a long reveal, end ident, and a living animation.
There’s more information about each in the table below.
| Name | Animation | Duration | Sound | Perfect for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Simple in and out | Short animated logo to open and/or close a video. | 7-second intro and 5-second outro (can be speeded up) | Yes | Shorter videos, social media content, teasers, and advertising. |
| Long reveal | Transition from a video or image into an animated logo. | 10 seconds | Yes | Medium or long-form videos and recordings. |
| End ident | Cinematic transition from a video or image into an animated logo. | 18 seconds | Yes | Videos designed to impress at events or on big screens. |
| Living logo | Discreet ripple of movement through the pillars in our portico symbol. | 15 seconds | No | Looping an animated logo in the background, for example on digital screens, in presentations or on stage at events. |

You’ll find all the files for our in and out, long reveal, end ident and living logo animations on Imagestore.
Video resourcesColours
Each animated logo is available in two colour versions: off white and dark purple.
The colour refers to the colour of the logo, not the background, so:
- ‘Off white’ is an off-white logo on a dark purple background
- ‘Dark purple’ is a dark purple logo on an off-white background
Formats
Our animated logos come in non-editable MPEG-4 (.mp4) or QuickTime (.mov) format.
MPEG-4 (.mp4)
The .mp4 files are useful when doing quick social edits or low-level video editing. The backgrounds are not transparent.
QuickTime (.mov)
The .mov files, on the other hand, have transparent backgrounds so can be easily added over images or video. They also tend to be large files.
Sizes
Each format comes in three sizes:
- Portrait (2160 x 3840 px), for use on social media
- Square (2160 x 2160 px), for use on mobiles and social media
- Landscape (3840 x 2160 px), for use on traditional 16:9 video
Advanced animation assets
Animated assets of our graphic pillars are available on request, for use as lower thirds, on-screen text containers, and more.
Also available on request are animated patterns and transitions.
Formats
All our advanced animation assets come as fully editable motion graphic files, for use in After Effects (.aep) or Adobe Premiere (.mogrt).
When editing them, please adhere to the following principles:
- Our logo must appear as outlined in our logo guidelines.
- Elements must move on and off screen from left to right.
- Any text must follow our typography guidelines.

Logo
Inspired by the most recognisable feature of our Bloomsbury campus, our logo is designed for clarity and accessibility across print and digital.
Colour
Our signature purple palette is one of our brand’s most powerful ingredients. It should feature prominently in all our communications – not just the logo.
Typography
Our brand typeface is unmistakeably UCL: designed especially for us, and according to our founding principle of being accessible to all.
Graphic pillars
Inspired by the graduating pillars in our logo, these graphics represent progress and movement. Use them in any design, from captions and text boxes, to patterns that bring our brand to life.
Photography
Photography is our window onto life at UCL. Through it, our campus should feel alive, channelling our community and the energy that comes from being at the heart of one of the world's greatest cities.
