  • UCL is ranked first for research power in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience by the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), with more than two thirds of our research in these areas rated as world-leading (4*)

  • 22 of our Faculty’s professors are named as being among the most influential academics in the world (Clarivate Web of Science’s ‘Highly Cited Researchers 2022’)

  • UCL is 1st in Europe and 2nd in the world for neuroscience and behaviour, based entirely on quantitative data relating to scientific papers (2022 National Taiwan University report)

  • UCL is 1st in Europe and 2nd worldwide for citations in neuroscience and behaviour, with more than twice as many published papers as any other European university (InCites Essential Scientific Indicators 2021)

  • UCL is the 1st in Europe and 2nd in the world for psychology (Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2022)

  • UCL is the most productive and influential mental health research institution in England (Bibliometric analysis by RAND Europe in 2015 identified UCL)

  • UCL is 1st in Europe and 7th in the world for papers in the top 5% of their field by citation rate in biomedical and health sciences (2017-2020, CWTS Leiden Ranking 2022)

  • Faculty of Brain Sciences published papers are four times as likely to be in the top 1% of papers by citation globally, more than twice as likely to be in the top 10%, and twice as highly cited as other published papers in the field (publications with at least one Faculty of Brain Sciences author, 2014-21, InCites) 

  • We are home to a Nobel Prizewinner (James Rothman) and two of our professors (John Hardy and Bart De Strooper) won the prestigious Brain Prize, the world's most valuable prize for brain research, for their groundbreaking research on the genetic and molecular basis of Alzheimer's disease

  • We are the hub of the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI), the single biggest investment the UK has ever made in dementia thanks to £290 million from founding funders the Medical Research Council, Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK

  • We achieved record results in the 2021 Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES), with over 95% of students saying they would recommend the Faculty
