Referred to the Clinic
The information provided below is for people with aphasia who have already been referred to the aphasia clinic by their doctor or speech and language therapist.
Why have I been referred?
You have been referred to gain a better understanding of how your language and communication has been affected. Together with Dr Jenny Crinion, you will be able to find out more about your communication difficulties and discuss ideas for therapy.
What will happen now?
You will receive an appointment to attend the clinic - this will be at the Outpatients Department at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery. You will see Dr Jenny Crinion. If further medical investigation and management of any neurological symptoms is indicated you will see Prof Alexander Leff on another occasion. The number of future appointments will vary from person to person and this will be explained to you.
Will my local speech and language therapy be affected?
No. If you are currently receiving therapy you will remain under the care of your local speech and language therapist at all times. This clinic is in addition to routine therapy services. All appointments and any changes to your treatment will be discussed with you first. If you do not want the specialist clinic team to be involved in your care, you can stop at any time.
