MRCPsych / CASC Courses
This innovative course – redesigned in 2024-25 – takes a fresh and engaging approach to the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ syllabus and important new directions in contemporary psychiatry.
Organised by the UCL Division of Psychiatry, the course is taught by clinicians and researchers across UCL’s Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience departments – ranked #1 in the UK by the Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021).
It prepares students for MRCPsych examinations and sparks their interests in wider topics beyond the syllabus.

Course Structure
Term dates run across two term dates (Sept-Dec and Jan- July). The course takes place in person, every Wednesday morning at St Pancras Hospital.
Paper A and Aii Course: Covers essential academic material for MRCPsych Paper A, including:
- Psychology, attachment and human development
- Neuroscience: from animal models to neuromodulators to neuroimaging
- Psychopharmacology
- Psychoanalytical theory and psychotherapies (CBT, DBT, group, family, CAT)
- Classification and assessment in psychiatry
- General adult, old age and child & adolescent psychiatry
- Neuropsychiatry
- Trauma informed approaches in mental health
- Leadership and management
- Ethics in psychiatry
Paper B and beyond - Covers essential academic material for MRCPsych Paper B and CASC, including:
- Statistics and critical appraisal in psychiatry – entirely revamped and redesigned in 2024-5, with clinical examples
- Social & community psychiatry, setting up services
- Addiction, forensic, learning disability, and liaison psychiatry
- Peer Supported Open Dialogue

Registration Form
The next term date will run from 16th September - 9th December 2026.
The course fees are £400.00 per semester. Applications will only be accepted on receipt of a fully completed registration form with accompanying bank transfer of £400, or if a training scheme is paying directly, the signature and address of the person to whom the invoice should be sent. Early registration is advisable, as places are limited to 50 students per semester.
