Co-Production Group

The FINCH Co-Production Group consists of 8-10 people with lived experience of being detained in hospital under Section 2 or 3, carers, and health professionals including doctors, nurses and social workers who work with those detained under section 2 or 3. The group represents a diverse range of ethnicities and ages and is co-led by The Finch study involvement lead, Patrick Nyikavaranda and Dr Mary Birken, The FINCH trial manager.

The Co-Production Group help ensure that the voices of service users, carers and staff working in mental health services are heard at all stages of the study. The Co-Production Group members have contributed to the development of the study intervention and planning of the trial and as well as being a reference point for any issues raised during the initial stages of the trial. Some of our Co-Production group members have been involved with interviewing individuals who have had experiences of being compulsorily detained about how they came to be detained and their thoughts of what may have stopped them being detained. Some of the co-production group members have also been part of the analysis team analysing data from these interviews.

Service user and carer members of the Co-Production Group have helped to provide first-hand experience of living with severe mental health problems, supporting a loved one, and knowledge of using mental health services.

As a team, we meet monthly to discuss the developments and progress of the project and receive ongoing feedback from the co-production members. The coproduction group will continue to be an integral part of the lifetime of the FINCH project.
