UCL Postgraduate Programmes at the Anna Freud

The Anna Freud has been hosting a range of our postgraduate programmes from Postgraduate Certificate to Doctoral level for over 20 years, attracting students from the UK and abroad who wish to advance their research and clinical understanding and skills.

Developmental Neuroscience and Psychopathology MRes 

This two-year programme focuses on developing skills in neuroscience and research, with an emphasis on clinical disorders such as autism and anxiety. Students spend their first year in London and their second year at the Child Study Center in Yale, where they complete a substantive research project.

Developmental Psychology and Clinical Practice MSc

This two-year programme gives students an opportunity to learn about child mental health from multiple perspectives, and to develop practical skills for working with children and families in a clinical setting. In their second year students have a clinical placement in a child and adolescent mental health team (CAMHS) where they are supervised by experienced practitioners.

Early Child Development and Clinical Applications MSc

This two-year programme provides a comprehensive understanding of early child development through a range of theoretical and clinical perspectives.

Child and Young Persons Psychological Wellbeing Practice PG Dip

This programme, a Department of Health initiative, aims to train a new workforce for CAMHS: Children's Wellbeing Practitioners (CWP). The programme is only available to employees of CYP-IAPT partnerships in London and the South East.

Child and Young Person IAPT Therapy PG Dip

This 'Recruit to Train' Postgraduate Diploma, a Department of Health initiative, provides specialist post-qualification training for Child and Adolescent (CAMHS) workers within the CYP IAPT model, focusing on the clinical areas of child mental health: anxiety, depression and conduct disorder.

Educational Mental Health Practitioner PG Dip

This programme is a shared initiative between the Department of Education and Department of Health and supports the government’s priority to increase access to mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people.

Supervision: Children and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Services PG Cert

This programme is aimed at supporting individuals in their role as Site Supervisors of trainees registered on our other workforce development programmes delivered in collaboration with UCL at the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families.

Child and Young Persons Psychological Wellbeing Practice PG Diploma

This diploma aims to train a new workforce for CAMHS by providing specialist training on evidence-based treatment techniques.  

Senior Wellbeing Practitioner PG Diploma

This two-year programme is commissioned by NHS England with a view to developing the careers and employability of those trained on Children and Young People’s Mental Health (CYP-MH, previously CYP-IAPT) Low Intensity Trainings.

Psychology and Trauma MSc/PG Dip/PG Cert (Child and Adolescent) – Distance Learning

Taught by leading academics and clinicians at Anna Freud, this online distance learning programme will provide you with the opportunity to explore the latest research evidence and applied practice related to the psychological impact of trauma in childhood.

Children and Young People’s Psychological Trainings: Leadership in CYP Mental Health Services, PG Cert

This postgraduate certificate is part of the Department of Health initiative to Improve Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). It aims to provide service managers with the necessary background knowledge and understanding to implement change within their CAMHS service.
