Creative Language in Aphasia (CLIA)

This is a speech and language therapy programme for people with aphasia who want to develop their language and communication skills in creative ways.

Who is this for?

Adults with aphasia (language difficulties) following a stroke or brain injury.

What we provide

The programme provides a combination of one-to-one and group sessions. People will work on language and communication skills individually, in discussions with peers, in carrying out creative activities, and in planning and carrying out a group project. The sessions are linked to a common theme of cultural or arts-based activities.

Sessions are delivered by qualified speech and language therapists and students working under their supervision.

Following the programme, we may refer you to other services that can provide further help.

The programme takes place on Thursdays, over a series of 9 or 10 weeks. We run one programme in October-December and one January-March.

Sessions take place face-to-face. People receive a number of sessions per day and therefore (usually) attend from 10am to 2.30pm. (Note that this includes a break for lunch; people will be expected to provide their own lunch.)

How to take part / How to make a referral

Please complete the referral form below and email or post it to us. We accept self-referrals from people with aphasia or family/friends, and from Speech and Language Therapists or other health care professionals. The programme is free of charge.
