The Bencie Woll Prize for Linguistic Research on British Sign Language

Eligibility:

To be considered for the prize, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• The research must primarily focus on BSL linguistics.
• The work must be published in a peer-reviewed journal or as an authored book.
• The publication must be within the last two years.
• Applicants must be the first author or the sole author of the work.
• Applicants should be early-career researchers (defined as within seven years of completing their PhD or Master’s degree).
• Deaf researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application Requirements:

• A one-page CV.
• Up to 500 words explaining the significance of the research.
• A link to the published paper.

Prize Timeline:

• Submission Deadline: End of May 2025.
• Winner Announcement: July 2025.
• The winner will also be invited to give a talk at DCAL (available on Zoom).
• The winner will present their research at DCAL, receive a certificate of recognition, and a £500 prize.
