This public engagement initiative focuses on the creative programme for our upcoming new home, in partnership with Moorfields Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Charity.
Oriel is our joint partnership with Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Moorfields Eye Charity that will move our services to a new, integrated centre in St Pancras, Camden. This is our opportunity to create a world-leading centre for advancing eye health that is keeping with the excellence of our talented workforce. Harnessing the expertise of the partners under one roof will enable us to deliver the highest-quality care, research and education.
The survey is intended to gather input from staff and students at the institute, our partner organisations, the broader UCL community, and the general public.
It takes about 5-10 minutes to complete. If you would like a paper version of the survey, please contact moorfields.oriel@nhs.net.
Why have a creative programme?
Art in hospitals has been shown to contribute towards positive patient outcomes, including shorter recovery times, and even a reduced use of pain medication. Medical centres across the world integrate art, heritage and ‘science on show’ to help people feel better, work better, and heal better. Evidence shows art and design within healthcare settings improves the way people relate to each other, supports an increased sense of calm and improves staff and patient wellbeing.
You don’t need to be an art expert to get the benefits - art, including the performing arts, can bring a different perspective, a sense of calm, and help to process difficult emotions or to motivate and energise you.
‘Science on show’ can teach us things. We want the new centre to be a calm place to receive care and a place to learn and be inspired.
