The Provost had the opportunity to first meet with Clare Pelham CEO Epilepsy Society (ES) and Peter Worthington the ES chair of trustees before undertaking a tour of the centre and meeting many UCL and UCLH staff and students.

" The sheer quality of the research and clinical services at the Chalfont Centre is outstanding. The breadth of research at the Centre, which is at the forefront of translational and clinical epilepsy research and is recognised as playing a leading role worldwide in epilepsy research, is particularly impressive"  UCL's President & Provost Dr Michael Spence
"We were delighted to welcome Michael Spence for the first visit of a UCL Provost to the UCL Epilepsy Imaging group at The Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy. His keen interest and engagement with the research team and their ground-breaking discovery and translational research was deeply appreciated by the whole team and inspired us to redouble our efforts." Professor John Duncan, Clinical & Experimental Epilepsy, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology
"The Provost was very impressed that the Global Health Challenges and the impact of climate change are a long-standing integral part of the research portfolio at the Chalfont Centre."  Professor Ley Sander, Clinical & Experimental Epilepsy, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology
"It was uplifting and inspiring to speak to the President & Provost about our work and achievements and feel his genuine interest and appreciation" Dr Roman Rodionov, Senior Research Fellow, Clinical & Experimental Epilepsy, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology

“It was a pleasure to meet a Provost who showed genuine interest and fostered insightful discussion about the implications of our research!” Marine Fleury, Research Fellow, Clinical & Experimental Epilepsy, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology

“ It was a real pleasure to show the Provost the fantastic epilepsy research undertaken at Chalfont by researchers that are part of the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, working in partnerships with UCLH and Epilepsy Society. The UCL PhD fellows presentations were really outstanding!” Professor Michael Hanna, Director, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology

The Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy was established over 130 years ago by neurologists from the National Hospital at Queen Square, the forerunners for the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. The Centre is an essential base for our Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy, mainly supported by the Epilepsy Society.

The Epilepsy Society, our partner, aims to transform the treatment of epilepsy and give people hope for a life without seizures. By selling a part of their land in Buckinghamshire, the Society hopes to raise £100 million, which would be invested in cutting-edge research transforming the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. UCL fully support this plan. Please see link below for further information.
