The Edmond J. Safra Fellowship in Movement Disorders aims to grow the global base of movement disorder specialists by training movement disorder clinician-researchers who can provide expert care and lead scientific advances.

As the demand for movement disorder specialists increases, not enough neurologists are receiving vital training in Parkinson’s and related conditions. To address this need, The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF), in collaboration with long-time partner the Edmond J. Safra Foundation, launched The Edmond J. Safra Fellowship in Movement Disorders. The program annually funds academic centres to train a new movement disorder clinician-researcher over a two-year period and is growing an international, collaborative network of next-generation leaders in Parkinson’s research and care.

UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology is proud to be one of the first UK centre to host a class of The Edmond J. Safra Fellowship in Movement Disorders, and welcomes Dr Francesca Magrinelli as part of this prestigious programme. Dr Magrinelli joins Class of 2022 Fellow Dr Eoin Mulroy.

"The prestigious MJFF Edmond J. Safra fellowship in Movement Disorders promises to amalgamate my dedication to patient care with fascinating opportunities of translational research with the ground-breaking clinical and research teams led by movement disorder specialists at the UCL Institute of Neurology. In the context of my postdoctoral period, this fellowship is enabling me to refine my clinical competency on movement disorders and to continue my research activity in neurogenetics of movement disorders and neurodegeneration in a world-leading centre. This will lay the foundations for constructive collaborations and for completing my transition from junior to independent researcher."  Dr Francesca Magrinelli, Department of Clinical and Movement Neurosciences, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology
"This growing global network of expertly trained movement disorder specialists will help ensure that people and families living with Parkinson’s receive comprehensive and compassionate care and that critical research moves forward to meet their most pressing needs.” Lily Safra, chairwoman of the Edmond J. Safra Foundation.
