The event, which was held virtually on July 14th 2021, celebrated the achievements of staff and students across UCL who are making a real contribution to the University’s sustainability agenda. Richard Jackson (Sustainability Director, UCL) hosted the event, and highlighted the awards UCL has received over the past year, and also the launch of UCL Climate Hub. Professor Deborah Gill (Vice-Provost (Education and Student Experience) then gave an overview of the role of students in UCL sustainability, including SU Sustainability strategy and as Sustainability Ambassadors.

This year’s Ceremony welcomed nominees and award winners from across UCL, including nominations for the Awards celebrating UCL’s outstanding sustainability champions, and the teams participating in Green Impact and LEAF, UCL’s sustainability behaviour change programmes. 45 teams participated in Green Impact in 2021, and 40 teams in LEAF. Martin Farley presented the LEA awards and commended ION for the co-ordination of their sustainability work, led by Stephanie Czieso.

The awards were made in recognition of the innovative best practice across the Institute, examples of which can be found on our Sustainability pages, and builds upon our success at previous awards.
