Faculty of Brain Sciences celebrates 2021 Sustainability Award winners

19 July 2021

Congratulations to all of our Faculty staff for their achievements in creating a fair and sustainable future, which were celebrated at UCL’s annual Sustainability Awards.

UCL Ear Institute rooftop garden

The awards highlight the achievements of staff and students across UCL who are making a real contribution to the university’s sustainability agenda.

A team in the Ear Institute were highly commended in the Sustainability Impact Award category for their sustainable roof top garden. Graham Nevill (Senior Technician), Steve Terry (Research Fellow) and their garden helpers at the Ear Institute created the garden as a place for relaxation and recreation (aptly named ‘It’s good up Ear’!)

Sustainable features include planters made from discarded wood pallets, rainwater diverted to use for watering, and insect-friendly planting to encourage wildlife.

The Faculty also performed extremely well in UCL’s Green Impact and LEAF programmes, designed to make offices and labs more sustainable, achieving the following awards:

Green Impact Office Awards – Silver:

  • UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology (Green Square Admin)
  • Queen Square Library
  • Institute of Ophthalmology Library

Green Impact Office Awards – Gold:
