As Deputy Director for EDI, I plan to borrow shamelessly from UCL's LMCB (Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology), an Athena SWAN Gold department. Their EDI team is dedicated to ‘simply good practice’. I know that may seem hard to imagine in the midst of the pandemic, but we will work to get things as good as can be – for everyone. For example, we'll broaden the Equality Challenge to include protected characteristics beyond gender, particularly race and disability.
